i feel the earth move...

i forgot to post the most exciting news around indiana lately. we had an earthquake! some thought maybe their washer was off balance at 5:36am, others thought it was some crazy wind shaking their house from a spring storm, but then, oh yeah, it wasn't storming...anyway, it was the real deal...magnitude of 5.4 with the epicenter located somewhere in northwest illinois. it did wake us up with substantial shaking of our furniture, etc. the boys didn't wake up though, but i'm not certain they would wake if to a tornado hit our house. a few aftershocks occurred later in the day, but no one was injured and it just made great 'extra news' for everyone to talk about all morning.

dmx

just an fyi...if you're in need of cough medicine, even children's, you're gonna have to be 18 years old. i went to cvs to buy some for the boys and when i was checking out the lady said, "um, you have to be 18 to buy this because it has dextromethorphan in it." my response, "ok. well, i'm 31, so can i buy it for my sick kids?!" i proved it with my id and she was a little embarassed and said she thought i may have been 19 at the most. i guess that's supposed to be a compliment, but it never feels that way. anyway, i knew kids were using "dmx" to get high, but i didn't realize they were carding for cough medicine. good idea i guess, but so sad really.

green

who decided that only girls could paint their nails anyway?? caleb saw my nails painted (which i rarely do!) and thought they were "beautiful". he asked if i could paint his green since that's his favorite color. i looked at jerry and wondered how do you explain to a 3 year old who just wants his nails his favorite color that it's not okay. therefore, caleb now has one hand of green nails that he is very proud of. p.s. jerry agreed to this.

royalty day

the boys love the library...picking out books, movies, going to storytime. today caleb was able to go to a royalty party at the library and turn into a king. he made his very own crown, read stories, played games, ate a snack, and brought home a little bag of treats. the best part about the library...we can have fun for free!!

kite day

kingsway christian school kite day actually brings back bad memories to me...my dad spent so much time and effort back in 1983ish making this awesome homemade kite for me only to have it break within like 2 minutes. i felt so sad for him! today eli had HIS 1st kite day and he actually got his kite to fly all by himself a couple of times!! now they want you to bring a store bought kite instead of a homemade one...too many tears i guess. flying his kite was hard work. i was sweating by the time it was over! what a great time though.

wii

my parents got us a wii for christmas as a family gift and after a long wait for it to arrive due to it's high demand, we have been enjoying it. or rather, eli has been enjoying it. i think abram was a little out-of-sorts without his brothers this weekend...i found him in the playroom with the controller and the tv on saying "e-yi???" (eli). so sweet. by the way, the meds might be working...jerry's heart rate has been normal pretty much all weekend. yah!!!!

hopeful

after a week of just not feeling right, i convinced jerry to get in to actually 'see' the doctor. his heart rate has been consistently high and his rhythm was all over the place. it was frightening listening to his heart with my stethoscope! dr. bhaktah, who is an awesome cardiologist, was very reassuring to jerry that his symptoms are normal and that he still believes he's gonna have great results from the surgery. it's just gonna take some time for the scar tissue to do what it's supposed to do. in the meantime, he put jerry on a heart monitor to see what exactly is going on and he offered some medications to try in order to help alleviate his symptoms. the other alternative if the meds don't work is to cardiovert him. this would mean shocking jerry's heart in order to produce a normal rhythm. obviously the thought of that kind of freaked us out and we were not quite prepared for that step, so he's trying the medications for a few days to see what kind of results he gets. the doctor definitely gave us hope that jerry will be totally fine after his heart has time to heal, so we were very relieved to hear that!
