"...the journey of caring for, raising, training, and loving children will mark us indelibly and powerfully. We cannot be the same people we once were; we will be forever changed, eternally altered. Spiritually speaking, we need to raise children every bit as much as they need us to raise them."

4 months

another month brings us to 25 inches long and 14 lbs 3 oz...putting miss kinley just over 50%ile for weight & 75%ile for height. her brothers, once again, outweighed her by 3-4 pounds at this age, so she seems so small to us. we definitely can't attribute any of her weight to her hair because it's falling out at an alarming rate now!! she has 2 big balds spots on the sides of her head and somewhat of a rat tail in the back where the newborn hair has grown out. if she were a boy, i'd trim it all up & give her the summer buzz, but i can't really do that with a baby girl. a few of the wider headbands she has will hide it, but she still looks like she's in the midst of some chemotherapy. her bright blue eyes & great big smile distract from it though, so it's all good. she's starting to stay awake more, finally! sometimes she'll last for 2 hours before acting sleepy. she usually takes 3-4 naps a day though. AND she's still sleeping for about 12 hours at night. i hear her stirring around 4-5 am, so i feed her then, but she easily goes right back to sleep. she's napping now in her crib almost always. at night though, she's still in our room. just last night, i saw her pop her head up a couple of times before she fell asleep, checking everything out. she continues to suck on her knuckles which cracks me up. i thought for sure she would've found her thumb by now, or even some fingers, but she's content with the whole half of a hand she gets from the way she does it! she still loves her bouncy seat and playmat. she figured out how to shove the dangling toys in her mouth, so that's her fun now. she joins us for meals in the bumbo on the kitchen table. she LOVES, LOVES the bathtub!!! she kicks her legs so hard and wiggles around in the water like she's trying to do the backstroke. she continues to use her sweet voice more & more every day. she still "talks" the most to her daddy...like as soon as she sees him! she's still not a fan of her carseat, although it's getting a little bit better as she figures out how to suck on her hand while on her back. eli does a great job of talking to her to try to keep her happy on longer rides. i thought maybe the "newness" of having a baby would wear off with the boys, but it definitely hasn't. now that she's developing more of a little personality, they are even more in love with her...it's precious :)

my white haired boy

abram is quite a character and if you know him personally, you know exactly what i mean. he's talks like he's 10, sings his own songs, can play alone for hours, uses his expressions to enhance every story he tells you, and will cry if you leave without him giving you a hug & kiss. he's irresistable, really! his little lisp adds to his cuteness, although we probably need to work on that. anyway, he had his annual appointment with dr c yesterday and the nurse was in love with him by the end of our short stay. he told her all about toy story 3 and how the bear, lotso, is "evil". when she asked what kind of fruits & vegetables he eats, he said, "bananas, mashed potatoes, and powdered donuts", ha! he introduced her to his baby sister and made sure she knew her name was kinley. when asked by dr c if he could see airplanes & stars, he replied, "well, yes, but i look at the moon the most." she asked him what kind of ball he likes to play and he said, "i like all of them, but i really want to learn how to play the guitar when i'm 5". he even volunteered to get his 2 shots first. of course, i don't think he remembered what a shot felt like because as soon as the first one went in he started crying and said, "that thing is pokey, i don't like it, i don't want another one." his little dramatic self proceeded to limp out of the office like someone had caught off his big toe...it was pitiful. anyway, he weighed in at 37 pounds which put him in the 60%ile for weight and was 39 inches tall which is only the 25%ile. i've never had a child in the 25%ile so that was a shocker. he does have short legs, but i never would've guessed him to be that short. finally someone might be taking after me?! the fact that he's 4 now really blows me away...i don't want him to ever lose his 3 year old sweetness. i do look forward to how much he's gonna love preschool this year though and i know that his little personality is only gonna grow more in this 4th year...i love you, abram joshua.

bumbo
i'll be the first to admit that i was very skeptical about the bumbo. it's been a new invention since the boys were all babies and they all learned how to sit up just fine on their own without one. my cousin let us borrow a lot of her baby stuff though and the bumbo was part of her "stuff". we've actually used it quite a bit in the last week or so and kinley seems to like it & already is holding herself up better in it.
she usually sits in it during our mealtimes if she's awake and the boys keep her amused while they eat.
i decided to try it out in the pool and it fit right on the stairs! she kept leaning over in it cuz she tries so hard to get her tongue in the water :)
i should've gotten a wider shot of this one cuz she was sitting with the boys while they had a pokemon battle, ha!

naptime
baby girl is now napping in her crib during the day off/on. i've been reluctant to do it, but daddy did it one of the first days i went back to work. she will sleep pretty much anywhere (except her carseat!), so i knew she'd be fine with it. i just wasn't quite ready to have her a whole floor away from me during the day though :( i still like her to be downstairs sometimes while she sleeps so she doesn't lose the ability to sleep with noise cuz i have a hard time believing it will ever be quiet around here!
