change of plans

just to back track a little...jerry's heart did not cooperate for the hike. he made it one day on the trail, but with a heart rate of over 200, nearly passing out several times, and severe shortness of breath, he decided it wasn't worth the risk. since they were already out there, they decided to make the most of being close to washington d.c. and did a little touring. although he enjoyed a day in d.c., he was very disappointed that he wasn't able to do the hike he planned and had anticipated for so long. he made a visit to the doctor yesterday and his plan is to wait a little longer to allow more time for healing. if no change by the end of next month, then we'll probably be planning another ablation.

alvin

one of the fun chores of being a mommy of a 3 year old is responding to the call of "mom, come wipe my bottom!" yippee, i love to hear that. well this morning when i got the famous call i opened the bathroom door and heard, "HEL-LO, GOR-GEOUS!" the boys have seen the new alvin and the chipmunks movie more than a few times and this is one of alvin's classic lines in the movie. i nearly peed my pants after caleb said this...hilarious!

stubborn heart

well, the cardioversion effects lasted one whole day! jerry is now bouncing back and forth between a normal heart rate and a very high heart rate with some atrial flutter. i talked to the cardiologist today and he seems to think jerry will be fine to go on his long-awaited hike this week. he's so excited to go, but we're both a little hesitant about the safety of his heart. keep him in your prayers during this time of refreshment as he does something he truly loves! we'll reevaluate when he gets back and follow up with the doc as to whether another ablation will be necessary.

nsr

after another cardiologist appointment on tuesday, jerry really had no option but to be cardioverted. his heart rate was only normal for 3 days after surgery and the medications weren't helping. so today we went to methodist again and after 2 shocks, his heart is now beating in normal sinus rhythm. it's hard to be optimistic that it will stay that way, but we will be hopeful!!
